Advocating for communities since the year 2000

Our Work at a Glance

Our Programs

Eight programme areas – from the farm to Parliament – working together to build healthier, empowered communities in Kabondo East Ward, Homa Bay County.

What We Do

Eight Programmes, One Mission

Mwangaza Integrated Project works across eight areas of community need — from environmental conservation and food security to human rights advocacy and economic empowerment — serving communities along the Sondu Miriu River in Rachuonyo East Sub-County.

01

Climate Action & Environmental Conservation

Establishing green spaces across Rachuonyo East Sub-County through the Go Green Live Longer Initiative, Learn and Grow school tree-planting project, and active participation in national environmental days alongside partner organisations.

02

Food Security

Running an active horticultural farming project on approximately 5 acres along the Sondu Miriu River in Abuoye Village — growing kales, cabbages, black nightshade and cow peas to improve community nutrition and livelihoods.

03

Health Education & Awareness

Community health sensitisation covering nutrition awareness, HIV/AIDS and STI prevention, drug and substance abuse education, and waterborne disease awareness including bilharzia and malaria prevention across Rachuonyo East Sub-County.

04

Human Rights Advocacy

The founding purpose of Mwangaza — advocating for communities along the Sondu Miriu Dam who live without electricity, clean water and road access. Successfully defended Petition No. 002 of 2022 before Parliament and continuing to press for full implementation.

05

Gender Inclusion & Awareness

Mainstreaming gender equality and women's empowerment across all programmes. A dedicated Gender Mainstreaming department in the Board of Management ensures inclusive decision-making in every community activity.

06

Economic Empowerment

Supporting community economic participation through the Drug-Free Society Campaign, farm enterprise development and income-generating activities. A dedicated Marketing & Enterprise Development department drives market linkages and livelihood opportunities.

07

Education Support

Advocating for completion of stalled school construction at Abuoye and Nyandolo Comprehensive Schools — KENGEN CSR projects that remain skeletal structures. Mwangaza continues to press government and KENGEN stakeholders for delivery.

08

Community Capacity Building & Networking

Building organisational strength through partnerships with AfriNov, offering training in governance, financial literacy, Turning the Tides methodology and climate policy. Mwangaza is a member of the Homa Bay County Civil Societies Organisations Network.
